Bicycle holidays in Italy

Bicycle tourism is a way of traveling slow, as we do at BellaVia, enjoying the landscape and its natural beauties as well as the region cuisine and the wine specialties among other things.

Travel Slow

Live, cherish the moment, enjoy the journey, create memories!

In the “il bel paese” (the beautiful country), as we Italians like to call our land, cycling is very popular; every region remembers historic champions that still have an almost heroic fame; therefore, the competition in Tuscany is named l’Eroica. (Click here)

The aim of this event is to restore the excitement to participate to a race, recalling the cycling of the past on routes that mostly take place on dirt roads with vintage bicycles and clothing.

Near our house in Milan, there is a cycle path that is named after Alfonsina Strada, the first woman who participated in a race, she was born in 1891.  Her participation in the Men’s “Giro d’Italia” in 1924 paved the way for future generations of female cyclists.

There are so many routes, miles of bike paths from the mountains to the hills to the lakes to the coasts, and you can choose based on the territory and the type of bicycle you use.

There are routes for bicycles of all types. Mountain bikes, e-mountain bikes, racing bikes, e-bikes, dirt or road bicycles, and more than 160 different routes in the different Italian regions, some easy and others very challenging.

To name a few, from the northern mountain regions such as Valle d'Aosta, the Dolomites, Stelvio Pass, Livigno, the Venice area, Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, Lake Garda, Lake Iseo, and the Ligurian Coast to the central ones of the Adriatic Riviera, Tuscan Hills, Elba Island, the very green Umbria, and the national parks of the southern Apennines, from Abruzzo to Basilicata—Matera—and the major islands of Sardinia and Sicily. You can choose to tackle the wonderful mountains of the Dolomites and descend towards Lake Garda, or vice versa, take a tour of Tuscany and discover Elba Island, or discover the Adriatic coast, climb towards the Rock of the Republic of San Marino, and then reach Tuscany, Pienza, Montalcino, Siena and end up on Elba Island.

Imagine, in Italy there are more than 70 hotels, B&Bs and farm houses dedicated only to bicycle tourists!

In addition to rooms and restaurants, these hotels may offer the service of an expert bike manager who will advise you on routes and adventures and, upon your return after a wonderful day, a Spa - sauna or a swimming pool and a specialized workshop to assist your bike.

Bicycle tourism is a way of traveling slow, as we do, enjoying the landscape and its natural beauties as well as the region cuisine and the wine specialties among other things.

So, if you are a passionate cyclist and wish to discover Italy on your bike, send us a message; we shall be very glad to assist you in planning your trip, or click here to learn more.
